Emilio Tamez (b. 1999) is an American-born photographer whose work examines the interplay between sanctity, transgression, and the body as a site of emotional, psychological, and spiritual inscription.
Her practice investigates body language as the ultimate form of truth-telling. Lust, lamentation, prayer, meditations on femininity, anguish, romance, and rebellion- among others, are recurring egregores in her photographs. These concepts themselves become the characters, possessing her subjects and reappearing throughout her world of imagery. Pursuing a personalized lexicon of signs and symbols, Tamez’s photography proposes critical takes on beauty, soulful investigation, and the thrill of emotion.
Tamez lives and works out of a duffel bag.
