Emilio Tamez is a New York based artist whose narrative-focused imagery conveys both holiness and sacrilege with dramatic sensuality. Adhering to a self-described “highly technical” process, her prowess with details of color, light, and texture are imbued with a personal sense of meaning and storytelling to create an aesthetic universe uniquely her own. Dynamism of the human form is pushed toward unexplored territory in pursuit of truth. In Tamez’s own words, “The things people say are often lies, but the things we do are always true. Body language is the ultimate language.” Phantom passions given flesh, her photographs depict vital embodiments of psychological, spiritual, and emotional themes. Utopic futurity is overlaid with sharp observance of contemporary society, describing both the world as Tamez sees it and the world she would like to move toward, drawing on equal parts autobiography and observation. As she sees it, the world is made of signs and symbols; and she pursues mastery of her own visual language.
